From our latest email....

The House Education Committee will start to take testimony next week and the week after. The independent schools, and the Vermont Independent Schools Association (VISA) will provide the committee with detailed information about the variety of independent schools in VT, the populations they serve, how special education functions across the diverse body of schools, etc.

At this time we are going to allow the schools and VISA to provide the information the committee needs to determine whether or not they will pursue the bill. School Choice Vermont is not taking action at this time - it will be at least a week or so before we have a sense of how the committee perceives this bill and how we can most effectively participate in the process. Those of you who have expressed an interest in testifying regarding special education services may be contacted by VISA at some point if it becomes necessary. Testimony given before the Senate Education Committee, on a similar version of this bill (S.44) demonstrated that the Department of Education is not backing the bill in its current form. We are hopeful the Committee will take the same position when the facts become known.

Here is a link to a blog post summarizing both S.44 and H.170, with links to the full text of each bill.
