Challenges for Change - LIVE UPDATE FROM STATE HOUSE
Challenges for Change addresses our state's budget deficit. 20 million needs to come out of the ed budget this year 2011, and 45 million in 2012 (bear with me if I am off slightly on the #s)
Just perusing the document that is being distributed to the public for the first time. Here is the short version:
Ed. Commissioner Vilaseca's Challenges for Change progress report to the legislature contains recommendations reducing the number of school districts by forming supervisory districts (SD) our of our current supervisory unions (SU). The goal would be to reduce the SUs down to 50 SDs, some of our current small SUs would be assigned to a new SD. There would be changes to the administration and delivery of SPED.
There is a recommendation to form a commission to look at closing schools that have less than 75 students. This commission will take into account geographic accessibility, neighboring schools that are under capacity.
There is more, but this is a briefing for those of you who can't wait :-)
